Annual Giving Campaign
Our success is not something we can achieve on our own. Private schools across America conduct annual giving campaigns to fund operational needs that are not covered by tuition revenue. To close this gap between tuition and the cost of educating each child, we must rely on our Annual Giving Campaign.

Gifts to the school’s Annual Giving Campaign help support operational expenses, as well as academic and enrichment programs throughout our school, touching every classroom. In addition, donors may specifically request that their donations, or a portion thereof, be used for scholarships to assist those children who might otherwise be unable to attend Prentice.

Because ours is an economically diverse community, the school takes a “fair-share giving” approach: We place equal emphasis on donor generosity and high levels of participation from parents, alumni and friends. We ask that everyone give and that those who can give more do so. For our families, while tuition is not tax-deductible, your pledge to our campaign helps Prentice as it helps your family. All contributions to the Annual Giving Campaign are tax-deductible and accepted all year long.

Matching Gifts

Many corporations agree to match the personal charitable donations of their employees with an equal or greater corporate contribution. Businesses also often match the charitable donations made by spouses or those who retired from the company. At no additional cost to you, your contribution can work twice as hard to help The Prentice School.
How it works
To initiate a matching gift, complete your company’s matching gift form and send it along with your gift to The Prentice School. We will complete the form, certifying that it has received your gift and that The Prentice School is eligible to receive matching gifts under your company’s guidelines. We then forward the form to your company. After verifying the eligibility of both the donor and The Prentice School, the company sends a check to Prentice.
Each corporate matching program has its own rules. You should check with your employers’ personnel department to see if your gift qualifies for a corporate match.

Scholarship Program
We are concerned about all children who struggle to learn, because they process language differently. We are especially aware of underserved children who need – but can’t afford – our program. Our goal is to raise more scholarship funds to provide our specialized education for low-income students with dyslexia. Each year, we continue to see a rise in the need for scholarship funds.
Scholarships for Diversity
In addition, our goal is to provide scholarships for new students with language-based learning differences from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds who reflect the broad ethnic diversity of Orange County and neighboring communities that reflect our student base.
Scholarship Endowment Fund
If you are looking for the gift that keeps on giving, the Prentice Scholarship Endowment Fund is your answer. The Scholarship Endowment Fund is a restricted, separate account. Donations to the fund form a “corpus.” Only a portion of the interest earned in the fund is withdrawn, leaving the corpus untouched to continue growing. The larger the endowment fund, the more funds can be used for scholarships. With a growing Scholarship Endowment Fund, Prentice can continue to offer scholarships for underserved students who cannot afford a Slingerland education. With your support, Prentice can continue to help these talented and creative children reach their full potential.
Technology Fund
Technology benefits all students, but it gives children who learn differently new tools that allow them to express themselves more fluently with less frustration and anxiety. Our students’ language-learning differences make certain tasks—especially reading, writing, spelling and organizing their thoughts—very difficult. Several of our students have dysgraphia, as well as dyslexia. These students struggle to remember how to form individual letters in words, and they lack the fine motor skills required to write within a controlled space. Children with dysgraphia spend so much time struggling to form letters and trying to write between the lines that content, organization and mechanics are often ignored. The process can dishearten otherwise highly competent children, rendering them unproductive when it comes to homework completion, test-taking and all written output in general. Your financial support can assist us in replacing and upgrading existing technology, including adding laptops for our junior high students.

Professional Development Fund
The Professional Development Fund provides support for group or individual professional development of faculty, administrators and educational support staff in the following areas:
  • the piloting of new and innovative approaches and programs
  • research activities related to professional development and specialized training
