2009 - 2010 EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOP SERIES
Prentice is offering four educational workshops for parents (Prentice and non-Prentice alike) during the 2009-2010 school year. The following is a brief synopsis of the workshops and presenters. Each workshop is offered at a nominal fee of $10.00 per person*.
Checks for the four workshops should be made payable to “The Prentice School.”
 
Dr. David Monkarsh
“A Guide for Social Thinking”
Thursday, September 24, 7:00PM
Dr. David Monkarsh is one of the foremost authorities on the diagnosis and treatment of students on the autism spectrum. Dr. Monkarsh will discuss developing positive behavioral support plans designed to strengthen and guide social skill development for not only individuals with Aspergers, but all students. He will define autism, discuss Aspergers and differentiate between the two.
 
Dr. Gene Tsudik, Professor of Computer Science
Internet Safety
Thursday, October 29th, 7:00 PM
What can you do to make sure your student is navigating the internet safely? How can you protect your family’s personal information available on the computer? Come and find out as Dr. Gene Tsudik discusses monitoring your student and securing your family’s privacy while using the computer. An information sheet on firewall software will be provided.
 
Dr. Marc Lerner
“The Latest Research on ADHD”
Wednesday January 20th, 7:00 PM
Dr. Marc Lerner is a leading specialist and one of the foremost authorities in the area of ADHD and other related disorders. He is board-certified in General Pediatrics and Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, and an active clinical investigator at the University of California, Irvine, Medical Center. He will discuss the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of ADHD, as well as the latest research. One of the founders of the Prentice School, Dr. Lerner’s daughter attended Prentice for four years.

“Slingerland Parent Night”
Thursday, February 25th, 7:00 PM
Here is your opportunity to learn about the Slingerland Simultaneous Multi-sensory Approach to Language Arts. Attend this workshop, and you will have the opportunity to be a Slingerland student for the evening. Attendees will use all the learning modalities—auditory (ears), visual (eyes) and kinesthetic (feel) as they participate in a daily Slingerland lesson taught by various members of the outstanding Prentice faculty.
