PRENTICE EARLY PRIMARY PROGRAM (PEPP)
In 2008 Prentice launched its PEPP program, which is designed for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and first-grade students. The program enables ALL young children to develop the building blocks for academic, emotional, and social success in a safe-enriched environment that gives them a love of learning.
The PEPP program provides children with
- A small class size with a maximum of 12 students
- An experienced teacher and instructional assistant with backgrounds in early childhood development
- The opportunity to interact with his/her environment through exploration and interaction, using all three learning channels
- A safe, nurturing environment that promotes physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development
- A book-enriched classroom that will encourage children to develop a love of books and literature
- The modeling of good language usage and vocabulary development
- Slingerland Multi-sensory Language Arts program for first graders
The latest research indicates the importance of early intervention for children who are at risk for difficulties learning to read, write, and spell. There are several clues that indicate a child may struggle later in these areas; they include
- Delay in learning to talk
- Family history of reading, writing, and/or spelling problems
- Mispronunciation of words
- Problems learning new vocabulary
- Difficulty following directions
- Difficulty learning sound and letters
- Struggles learning to read
- Problems remembering sight words
The PEPP program is especially beneficial for those children displaying these indicators of a language learning problem.
